Judaism in the camp
At Szarvas, we place special emphasis on Jewish content education through various programs and informal education:
- Religious Practices: Campers have the opportunity to participate in morning prayers and Shabbat services, as well as to learn more about Jewish holidays. During the summer, in some sessions, we organize Bat and Bar Mitzvah ceremonies for campers and staff members.
- Education: Jewish history, traditions, and religious customs are integral parts of our programs at Szarvas. Campers can engage in various workshops and tasks to learn more about Jewish culture.
- Jewish and Israeli Culture: Various aspects of Jewish culture, such as music, dance, and art, are incorporated into the camp's programs. Campers can participate in learning traditional Israeli dances, tasting Jewish foods, singing Hebrew songs, and much more.
- Community Building: Community experiences like team-building games and discussions contribute to campers feeling a stronger connection to the Jewish community and their identity. This helps young individuals find their place within the Jewish community both inside and outside the camp.
- Camp Theme: Each summer has a theme through which campers explore different aspects of Judaism. We break down this theme into daily activities, breathing new life into it each day and helping campers to better understand and experience their Jewish heritage.
